Although The Weeks Act focused on the value of the White Mountains’ forests as headwaters, it was heavily supported by those who saw the forest’s biggest value as a refuge from the city, a place where one could find reliable escape to nature. This icon indicates sites that are home to recreational opportunities, including hiking, snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, swimming and fishing.
